BREAKING NEWS: Two injured in school shooting – building on lockdown

The victims — a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl — were transported to a local hospital where the boy is on a critical condition and the girl’s condition was described as “fair”.

A 30-year-old woman also sustained minor injuries but is understood not have a gunshot wound.

Sergeant Edward Bernal of the Los Angeles School Police Department said the suspect, a female student, was arrested at the scene and is now in custody.

The shooting took place at Sal Castro Middle School in the Westlake District of LA.

LAPD Officer Meghan Aguilar said a firearm had been recovered from the scene.

The campus remained on lockdown officers cleared a second-story classroom at the middle school.

Students were led from the classroom in handcuffs and searched by officers before being released.

Authorities said that the lockdown and frisking of students was a precaution and that they did not believe there was another shooter.

The location was initially reported as Belmont High School as the middle school is on the same campus.

Video footage from a helicopter showed LAPD officers escorting a young female in handcuffs to a squad car.
