Mr Farage said Michel Barnier still didn’t understand why Britain had voted to leave the EU, despite months of negotiations and discussions. The former Ukip leader also

said Mr Barnier failed to appreciate the importance immigration had as a factor in the Brexit vote. Mr Farage said: “He’s got the view it’s because people have been

promised a lot of money for the health service. What he really didn’t understand at all was that open door immigration within the European Union absolute key driver of

all of this. He really doesn’t see that. “To be honest the really disappointing thing, if I’m speaking on behalf of 17.4 million people, most of them anyway, is that it’s

pretty clear in the talks that have happened so far, immigration really hasn’t been discussed. “I think what I said to him today, when it came to business – that if they

were prepared to offer us a tariff-free deal on goods but not to be cooperative when it comes to services and financial services – that he might be in for a surprise. “It’s

easier for everybody if we have a good trade arrangement with the European Union. But it’s pointless and fruitless to spend years pursuing something I’m not sure he

even wants to give us. “Phase 1 has ended, the British government has made some huge concessions. We have given an awful lot away already. Now we move onto

phase 2.
